Memorise and internalise this and you’ll find what a big difference these three words will make.

    The Love and Significance Tank

    Children's Ministry, Leadership — by Rags @ March 6, 2010 3:20 pm

    significancetank.jpg

    1.Love Tank

During a seminar in church, I’m reminded that everyone has a love tank that its important to fill up because…

    Empty love tank = Disaster

Love received in the mind is of little value if its not felt in the heart. So knowing the love language of a person is crucial to help us ensure the type of love we show effectively fills a person’s love tank. For a while, I ponder if love is all there is to a person’s needs? If so then, how come well loved people experience meaninglessness in life? So I thought again. I think that besides the love tank, all of us has a significance tank as well.

    Empty significance tank = Boredom

    2.Significance Tank

This is the tank that measures how important the person feels about him/herself. Without some degree of purpose, a person loses their zeal in life. A person may know and feels that he or she is greatly loved but without their sense of significance, the person is stuck at the stage of merely existing. How do we fill a person’s significance tank? Encouraging people in their calling. Discover their area of strength and support their talents. Make them feel important by helping them discover and contribute their God given significance.

And don’t underestimate filling our own significance tank by doing what God has called us to do. That will always inspire others to do the same.

Full love tank + Full significance tank = Destruction of seismic porportion in the kingdom of darkness.

    Leadership Lessons From The Blues

    Leadership — by Rags @ January 27, 2010 10:23 pm

(0:01) Tell your story & paint the picture of your vision
(0:14) Lead with clear instructions and begin with getting into the groove
(0:56) Don’t fill every space with words. Use actions, expression and an honest sigh.
(1:30) Develop great skill but when playing, play with passion more than technicality.
(2:47) Sound good alone but allow room for others so that together you sound even better.
(3:20) Only truth sounds like truth. Wail if your heart is wailing.
(4:30) Enjoy your work and maintain the same quality even when nobody is looking.

    10,000 hour rule

    Blog, Leadership — by Rags @ December 17, 2009 5:22 pm

Got a wonderful early Christmas gift from Pastor Jeff yesterday. It’s the book that I’ve been so eager to read in full. (Oh yes, I’ve read it in parts at Borders). Being busy just before Christmas & New Year, I did manage to slip in to reading 2 chapters last night.

I thought about chapter 2’s  “The 10,000 hour rule”. How interesting.

    recentcds.jpg

As I listen to the 3 very recent releases (and giving them my ratings as follows)…
    1) The reissue of Beatle’s classic album Abbey Road (rating: 9/10 )
    2) Jason Mraz’s new Live Album, Beautiful Mess Live on Earth (rating: 8/10) &
    3) The very best of Don Henley (6/10)
…  I remember Gladwell’s deduction of the number of hours Beatles had to put into creating their success. I  wonder how different Jason Mraz and Don Henley’s story would be. I guess it wouldn’t be any lesser.  So I guess there’s really no secret to success. We just have to put in the hours.

How many hours have we clocked to develop our talents? How many are we willing to put in for the Lord. Can we truly give an account when we see the Lord again?

My hours maybe just to the hundreds or maybe a thousand at most….

    How’s Your Circle of Influence

    Leadership, Management — by Rags @ December 10, 2009 11:29 pm

    circles.jpg

Are you doing something to expand your circle of influence or are you playing around your circle of concern?

Stephen Covey is a hero of mine and I just heard him speak about these circles. It may not be new to most of us but it sure is new to me because I can’t believe that people spend so much time in the circle of concern that it has made it expand at the expense of a small circle of influence.

I’m working with the circle of influence because that’s the only thing that I have control over and not a waste of time.

    Vision of a City

    Blog, Leadership — by Rags @ December 3, 2009 11:28 pm

    putrajaya.jpg

Was in KL for the CORE Part II, HIM Global Conference held at Putrajaya, Malaysia’s new administrative centre.  It’s a city built from ground up according to the grand vision of former Prime Ministry Dr. Mathatir.

Spending 4 days there made me think a lot of what a clear vision can do. If a man’s vision can create such majesty, what if the vision originates from Heaven? Wouldn’t it be work beyond natural vision and imagination.

While in KL, I helped with dad’s vision of his website using his own domain. It’s at www.cyhiew.com and I think it ain’t bad for just a night’s work. Look out for the series of entries of all his children’s (as his own) wedding photos.

Again what I learned last night (2/2)

    Children's Ministry, Leadership, Management — by Rags @ October 20, 2009 12:53 pm

    eric_feng.jpg

It was the second night with Eric Feng and his trainers.

What a remarkable night as 30 of us learn about public speaking. Now we can have the skill to communicate and speak to people more effectively.

My greatest take home is PREP where we ask these questions of our speeches.

    1. Whats our point? (Point)
    2. Why is it important to the audience? (Reason)
    3. Tell a story (Example)
    4. How does it apply to the audience? (Practice)

Because applying to children’s church sometimes we speak well but we don’t have a point. We also don’t care what we share is important to the kids. We don’t have a story to make it real and no application for the kids to take home and use.

Now with some of these skills, we can do better in our speaking and communication with kids….  or we can also use it to rule the world.

What I learned last night (1/2)

    Leadership, Management — by Rags @ October 13, 2009 8:01 am

    eric_feng.jpg

Spent the evening with author, blogger and public speaking coach Eric Feng with our team of kids communicators last night.

    Here’s what I learn

    1. It is important to form a good first impression because it last longer and it’s harder to reverse.

    2. It’s easier to look confident than feel confident so do our best to look confident because that may lead us to feel confident.

    3. Dealing with difficult people (or children), we need to stroke them and come to the point when persistence about what needs to be done must be made clear.

    4. We leave different first impression to different people. I can look fatherly, not very friendly, friendly, approachable and serious all at the same time. Try to leave a good first impression but don’t sweat it when it’s not as expected.

    5. Charisma is all about the likeability factor and giving other people the attention that they need.

    6. Good communication can be simply summed up as telling a story and making a point.
