20 years ago, the Berlin Wall fell. It fell because it was trying to keep people in. It’s never good to build a wall to keep people in. We build and restore walls to allow dwellings and to keep enemies out.
Two things to do:
1. Always build community that is sanctified by the Word and
2. Set people free.
Sole of my shoes came off on the way to work. 5 Ways to deal with it
1. Live with it
2. Go buy glue and fix it
3. Complain and let it get you down
4. Go have a cup of coffee
5. Shoes, what shoes? A disciple of Christ don’t need shoes
I chose to buy glue, fix it and then go have a cup of coffee.
Michael Jackson lived up to 50. Hmm, I may only have over 10 more years
Farrah Fawcett lived up to 62…. ahhh maybe I get another 12 more years after that.
But Anthony Yeo died at 60, so perhaps I have 2 years lesser.
As I think upon these people and the legacy they leave behind, I realise our time is short and the choices we make within these short time, determines how we live. It isn’t about how long we live but whether if we have decided and then started to live.
When God gave us the Great Commission, he gave us the greatest mission and the highest dream or venture possible. It is at a scale greater than Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, celebrities, kings and presidents or any world changers in that matter. So as God’s chosen ones, we are to set our heart on the highest dream that God has placed in us and then spend the rest of our time whether it is 10 or 20 or 40 years to live it out. It’s scary but that’s what ‘purpose’ is all about, to scare us into not waiting for life to happen but to make life happen.
Time, resources and talent has already been given and for us to take. Let’s not waste it.
Tips:
1) Are you living by a set of values? If not, set that set of values to live by.
2) Are you living for things or are things living for you? Define your highest dream or calling, so that your time, talents and resources aren’t just consumed but are used for that purpose greater than yourself.
3) Have you started to try rollerblading or the things you always wanted to do?
4) Have you left ever left comment on my blog? If not, do it at least once, start now.
Co-preaching 5 services with Ps Jeff isn’t a walk in the park, it’s an endurance race. The first 4 was okay but the last one was so tough going that i can’t recall what happened.
There are 8 things I learned
1. Connection with the congregation is key
2. Quality is better than quantity
3. The nervous energy is a very useful thing
4. There’s no failure like success
5. Believe the Lord’s work is done regardless of how we feel
6. Content (or the Word) is king
7. Chemistry with co-preacher ensures speaking with one voice
And finally 8. Following Ps Jeff means ’staying in church’ longer than everyone else….. which is really not a bad thing.
Starting our It’s Alive Easter Series as followup to our Easter special.
Can’t wait! It’ll be exciting.
For those interested in the series, Lifechurch.tv offers them FOC. They are a very sharing ministry which have a lot of amazing video curriculum to use in your children’s ministry. Just sign up and bless your children with a different spiritual experience.
Preaching. I have never preached so much before in one weekend. The Indo and PolyDIN congregations were so dynamic, warm and supportive. It’s great to serve hi-end people in this church. Things are well and growing at the HopeKids service. One boy is back in church after more than a year’s absence. There was never a bus the last time, now he’s on one of our buses. He look in good shape, but may need some ’Love First’ actions. A group of us will be doing that the next week or so.
Home viewing. I gotta leave my home. The old is going, the new is coming. Home viewing is quite fun when you’re not confused what you want. Some clarity here will help. Our criteria is now … close to amenities, quiet, high floor, near children’s school, cheap, choice units, has nice view, greenary, children playground, close to shopping, walking distance to mrt, bus stop, taxi stand, near the sea, swimming pool, tennis courts, bowling alley, gymnasium, hi resale value, big, next to mountain, nice neighbours, has many rooms, many windows, bath tubs, built in cabinets, move in condition, air conditioned and of course one that everyone at home likes…. Oh, so far we’ve only been looking for it in Singapore.
Preparing for Ripple Conference. Less than 2 weeks, we either thrive it or just survive it… yes, let’s rock right!
Back from a weekend. A weekend with people. The 3 consecutive nights of wake services and funeral leaves us drained but not without a lasting hope about God’s comfort. This is our first HopeKids funeral and I told God to let it be our last.
I think Nina Simone wraps it up for us. She speaks about our perceived lack and what we really got. Check it out
