There are four phases of change that you’ll likely go through this year in leadership, life and ministry. If we know what it is, we are ready to handle it. Here’s what you should be ready to do in 2010.
1. Accept - “Accept” the new challenges that God is bringing into your life.
2. Adapt - Problem is going to come and a great deal of people give up at the end of January. But you are going to be different, you will “adapt” knowing these troubles will serve you to build up necessary skills and muscle for what you are doing.
3. Arise - If you could adapt, you’ll “Arise” to new level of leadership, life and ministry. Things will flow and work out for you. You’ll move from being an adapter to an ariser or overcomer of problems. The Lord wants us to enjoy most of our year in this phase. So it is wise to get here early and thrive in your work for most of the year.
4. Advance - At the end of the day, every thing that is new becomes old. Everything has a life span with a beginning and an end. When the end comes, we need to let it go to advance to what is ahead. Things come and go but people grow! At the end of the year, we let go of the ‘old’ so that we can ‘advance’ to allow ‘new’ things and challenges to come.
The ‘Art of Change’ is the ‘Art of Following God’ as he guides us through these challenges. It is allowing God’s power to help us Accept, Adapt, Arise and Advance all year round. It’s exciting work…. so let’s start thinking about accepting new challenges next year. The best way to do it is first to resolute to set new aims and goals. I’m not talking about small goals but big and challenging ones. The reason people quit their dreams is often not that its too big that they can’t reach it but its too small that its truly not worth it.
Remember, you’re not the same person as you were in the beginning of this year. So learn from the setbacks this year and be ready for the great things that is to come in the next. You may have had both hits and misses, success and disappointments, but nothing will stop you from leveraging on your successes and seek the opportunities in your misses in 2010.
As always, don’t forget to be His!

Was involved in 6 services this week, from children, adults to funeral. It’s as wild as it can come. As I reflect on the week, I know that all this is not possible without teams. We partner with staff, worms, parents and a great team of family members. Did our last service of the year yesterday with kids and parents. If there’s something I have learned this year, it is the power of partnership in teams. Working in silos create division but partnership synergize to maximise for the Great Commission.
If Year 2009 is a year of preparation and alignment of teams, Year 2010 is going to be a year of intentional discipleship with these combined teams.
Ended the week with HopeKids MASH-UP session led by Eilton on Sunday afternoon. I was the invited guest and it’s good to see a group of young people starting their leadership journey and influencing one another. There’s great hope in Hope Church for 2010.
Good job to everyone who worked hard throughout the year.

My dad has always been an inspiration to me. This is one of many chinese lyrics that my dad has written to popular tunes. He also writes originals. This one is special because it is a Christmas carol and he has used it to wishes his blog readers a happy christmas & new year. I extend that wishes to my friends in ragsstudio.com
Check out his new blog at www.cyhiew.com.

This is the NAD C515BEE; A great piece of new engineering. It won awards and all but its not good enough to play Mahler Symphony Number 5 in my setup. So sad that it has to go.
I’m keeping the old Marantz CD7300 instead. That incidently (together with my turntable) is great and good enough.
Dear friends,
If your heart do not condemn you, you have confidence before God and receive from him anything you ask, because you obey his commands and do what pleases him.
Holy Spirit,
(1 John 3:21-22)

Secret of Success:
Keep in obedience doing what is right and make sure the guilt of your heart don’t do subtle work of condemnation.
Formula of Failure: A few errors in judgment and repeat it everyday.
Formula of Success: A few simple disciplines practiced everyday.
My appreciation of water comes in 3 phases
1. Thankful for abundance of water
2. Thankful for quality of water
3. Thankful for a cup of water
Today I’m so thankful for my thankfulness of a cup of water. I believe I’ve reach water appreciation nirvana.

Was an eventful day so retreated with some time with God. Asked God for some solutions to some giant sized problems.
Before I retire to bed, went to soccernet.com and found some shocking news that…
1) Fulham trashed beloved defending champion Manchester United 3-0
2) Bottom team Portsmouth beat mighty Liverpool 2-0
God has spoken. Giants can be beaten!
“But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” - Matthew 1:20-21
Jesus was the most purpose driven man. He holds to the ‘vision of one thing’ to do His father’s will.
It is always our ‘one thing’ that will produce fearless living. Many things invites half-heartedness and subsequently worry and fear.

Got a wonderful early Christmas gift from Pastor Jeff yesterday. It’s the book that I’ve been so eager to read in full. (Oh yes, I’ve read it in parts at Borders). Being busy just before Christmas & New Year, I did manage to slip in to reading 2 chapters last night.
I thought about chapter 2’s “The 10,000 hour rule”. How interesting.

As I listen to the 3 very recent releases (and giving them my ratings as follows)…
1) The reissue of Beatle’s classic album Abbey Road (rating: 9/10 )
2) Jason Mraz’s new Live Album, Beautiful Mess Live on Earth (rating: 8/10) &
3) The very best of Don Henley (6/10)
… I remember Gladwell’s deduction of the number of hours Beatles had to put into creating their success. I wonder how different Jason Mraz and Don Henley’s story would be. I guess it wouldn’t be any lesser. So I guess there’s really no secret to success. We just have to put in the hours.
How many hours have we clocked to develop our talents? How many are we willing to put in for the Lord. Can we truly give an account when we see the Lord again?
My hours maybe just to the hundreds or maybe a thousand at most….
