At Our 2 Days Management Retreat

    Blog, Leadership — by Rags @ September 30, 2009 10:48 pm

    zooteam.jpg

On the outside, its breakfast at the zoo, night cycling at geylang, praying and playing together as a team. Yes a team will truly stay together if they can play together.

But for the past two days, the greatest thing happens on the inside, it God’s promise that we are choice vine of sound and reliable stock - Jeremiah 2:21

Wow God knows how to say these type of things.  And unlike me, God don’t say things for fun.

    Capturing Childlike Faith

    Children's Ministry — by Rags @ September 28, 2009 5:23 pm

We did a video of hopekids sharing testimonies with very little prompting. You can imagine how messy it is.

    At the Y-Hope Service

    Blog, Children's Ministry — by Rags @ September 26, 2009 8:12 am

Today is the first or 2 days children’s day challenge to reach the next generation. I have the honor to preach with Pastor Jeff again. It’s going to be wild time and I  confidently nervous how it’ll turn out.

Will be doing 1st of 4 services at 12:15

Gustav Klimt’s Painting of the Month

    Creation, Leadership — by Rags @ September 25, 2009 8:51 am

The maiden (painting of the month from expo-klimt.com)

Gustav Klimt is one of my favourite painters and it was a privilege to be able to see his work in L.A a few years back.

He has this to say about himself and his work

“I have the gift of neither the spoken nor the written word, especially if I have to say something about myself or my work. Whoever wants to know something about me -as an artist, the only notable thing- ought to look carefully at my pictures and try and see in them what I am and what I want to do.”  - Gustav Klimt

    An orange by the roadside

    Blog — by Rags @ September 23, 2009 1:37 pm

I was driving when I saw an orange by the roadside. It may have dropped from a shopping bag when someone crossed the road. I got a weird thought and wanted to verify if others feel the same way. I asked May Ann and Chern Han who were with me what they felt like doing to that orange by the roadside. Chern Han said “I’ll throw it away (out of the way)”. May Ann said “Yumyum”. And I thought that’s so wonderful because I had the urge to peel it and that would make a wonderful process if Chern Han could throw it into my hand, I peel and pass it to May Ann to eat it up.

Now if we spend a bit more time thinking about who we have in the team, what each of us think, we possibly have a chance to create a good working process that will solve the problems we have in our hands.

    Conferences

    Blog — by Rags @ September 22, 2009 12:07 am

Just spoke at the men’s conference this afternoon. Enjoyed time with the band of brothers. So honored to be able to share what the Lord had put in my heart to advance the church forward

Tomorrow will be sitting in Willow Creek’s Leadership Summit with the leadership gang. It’s been so hectic, I can’t wait to just sit down, absorb and receive.

    Yung’s First Anniversary

    Blog — by Rags @ September 17, 2009 10:23 pm

Today Yung came into my office and presented me a montage of photographs she made of all the big events she was involved in since she coming full time. Apparently today is her 1st anniversary in the staff team.  Now if I knew, shouldn’t I give her something instead but she beat me to it which shows what an awesome worker she is.

As I look at the photos…. last year’s holiday club at Jacob Ballas Garden, this year’s holiday club at the Zoo,  Christmas Outreach, our faith induced Ripple Conference,  HopeKids flag day fund raising Sunday and our Staff retreat, I realise how much HopeKids could do because of her and how much we won’t be able to do without…

    Yung,
Thanks for your one year of dedication to the Lord’s work full time. Congratulations for surviving your first year and hope your journey with God continue to grow in depth and excitement. You have been a great leader and team player.  Am thinking if we want to change the world, we have to build world changers. And with people like you in the team, I’m confident we can do this awesome work.  Thanks for your attention to the details I cannot see and being a great armour bearer and I wouldn’t have survived the year without you. I know that the best is yet to come if we rock on. Let’s keep on being faithful - His, HT

How should leaders spend their time?

    Leadership — by Rags @ 9:48 pm

    howwelead.gif

This is what I stand by and recommend to others

    > 1/3 Reflecting
The leader do the necessary reflection, thinking, reading, learning and planning
    > 1/3 Doing
The leader do the laborious work of doing after planning
    > 1/3 Developing
The leader spends time training and developing others

I’m a bit off balanced of late, but it’s gonna change. Now, just need to get these few ‘doing’ out of the way,
ie. the Kids Building Framework tomorrow, Kids sermon on Sunday, Men’s Ministry Message on Monday and the Kids Challenge Sermon next week.

    Sole of Shoes

    Events — by Rags @ 9:39 pm

Sole of my shoes came off on the way to work. 5 Ways to deal with it

    1. Live with it
    2. Go buy glue and fix it
    3. Complain and let it get you down
    4. Go have a cup of coffee
    5. Shoes, what shoes? A disciple of Christ don’t need shoes

I chose to buy glue, fix it and then go have a cup of coffee.

By the way I love this song
