    Hear See Tell

    Blog, Contemplation — by Rags @ March 31, 2009 7:56 am

“…. Hear my teaching, listen to the words of my mounth …” Psalm 78:1

“… I will utter hidden things, things from of old…. things our father have told us” - Psalm 78:2

“…What we have heard…. do not hide them from their children, … tell the next generation, … the praiseworthy deeds, ..power.. and wonders he has done ..”  - Psalm 78:3-4

Don’t be a monkey, be what the Lord wants for us to 1.’Hear’, 2.’See’ and 3.’Tell’ (from Psalms 78:1-4).

    1. Learn to to open to listen to God (from scripture, from people and the things that’s happening to you). Keep a journal.
    2. Learn to see the things of old, learn from the old and wise people who have walked the path. Find a mentor.
    3. Learn to tell to the next generation. Commit to say less but communicate more.

    Reminder

    Leadership — by Rags @ March 30, 2009 8:01 am

Leaders, just a reminder that people are not against you, they are just for themselves.

Know this so that you can lead them better.

Let’s Try At Least 40 Times

    Blog, Leadership — by Rags @ March 29, 2009 11:54 pm

I bought a small bottle of WD-40 thinking that I’ll spend the evening getting some equipment connectors cleaned. Yeah, such interesting life I have.

Found out that WD-40 stands for Water Displacement 40th attempt.  The name is because Norm Larsen the inventor took 40 attempts before he got the formula to prevent corrosion by displacing water. 40 attempts, means means 39 unsuccessful attempts before finally success in the 1953 when the product was introduced. Today WD-40 is used worldwide and is the household name for rust prevention and contact cleaning. WD-40 is not just a product, it’s an inspiration.

So how many times are we, in our attempt to lead and change something in our ministry? If not many, let us try … say at least 40 times? I think we are bound to succeed if we do that.

    Earth Hour

    Blog — by Rags @ March 28, 2009 10:01 pm

    earthhour.jpg

We observed Earth Hour. 8.30 to 9.30pm. We started 10 minutes late but when we realised it, we promptly switched off all the lights and appliances, our hands could reach. Unplugged the laptop and switch off all powerpoints. Everything was off except the fridge and my audio interface which is connected via Firewire to the Macmini.

It was a teachable moment. We had a great time with the kids. I went to shower with a candle. It feels different in darkness. But when 9.30 strikes, the kids switched on every single thing they could possible think of. Sort of defeat the purpose but then that hour did gave us an experience that was precious. To go without electricity is to trust the simpliest of things. It was a fast and it made me think about things we are unreflective about. It was a divine moment for about an hour.

Eddi Reader - How Great Thou Art

    Music — by Rags @ 6:36 pm

She’s scottish, she busked on the streets, she worked with people, she formed Fairground Attraction and released the hit single “Perfect”. She recently danced with work of national scottish poet Robert Burns and released a masterpiece. It’s work you have to check out ie. Eddi Reader Sings Songs of Robert Burns.

A spiritual lady singing an amazing spiritual tune.

    1 + 1 = around 10 actually

    Children's Ministry — by Rags @ 6:12 pm

Why? because if 1 person can do 5 things, having two person, we can do 10 things. The church doesn’t need people doing 5 things by themselves. She need a lot of 10 things done together.

Last night, we waltz with the family group. I spoke about the 3 areas of blessedness in the second half of life. Yes I find that the second half of life is definitely better than the first half. I’m greatly blessed doing work with the people of the next generation with partnership with people of this generation.

It makes so much sense to think discipleship when we do ministry cos the mathematics is just different when when we think partnership for the future.

    Almost Everything’s Hard

    Blog, Management — by Rags @ March 26, 2009 10:19 pm

Did I ever tell you that marriage is hard? Yes, its hard, so hard. But so is life, work and everything else. What’s not hard is usually not worth doing.

Today I had such a difficult time getting a cake to an uncle who’s birthday is today. I worked a bit late, had to think of what to buy, bought it and then realise its not suitable, got scolded, was late for dinner, rushed home, paid ERP and rush hour cab fare, ate dinner hurriedly, drive out like headless chicken to find another gift, found cake at haagen daz, think of what flavor he’ll like, doubted, guessed and bought it, control 3 kids who wanted to eat it, went to uncle’s house only to find he’s not home. Anyway after dropping the cake, I felt good. For ‘enough’ action, i got ’satis’faction. It was hard work, though not very neat work, it’s work worth doing.

Almost everything in life is hard, even arranging to go on holiday or eating the best chilli crab. It’s really not a question if its hard to do or not. It’s whether its worth doing and messing up a little bit… and sometimes messing up a lot. Yeap, what’s worth doing is worth messing up a lot too.

2 Things To Cultivate In A Child

    Blog, Children's Ministry — by Rags @ March 24, 2009 11:51 am

I believe the 2 not so spiritual things to cultivate in kids that will make a great spiritual difference in them are

    1) Love reading

    2) Love music

Learning to love words and love songs makes a greater disciple and worshiper. I highly doubt loving computers makes much of a difference actually.

These are just stuff I think. You may think differently.

3 Pair of Things I Learn From James Allen

    Contemplation — by Rags @ 7:57 am

    asamanthinketh.jpg

I read his book last night and I discover his recommendation of 3 things to be contented with

    1) With whatever happens
    2) With friendships and possessions
    3) With our pure thoughts

3 Things to be not contented with

    1) With our opinions
    2) With our character
    3) With our spiritual condition

Why are some people so wise that it takes one so long to understanding their wisdom?

For the whole day today I can’t get something that has hit the national headlines out of my mind.

I don’t know how long I can go on before I have to eat one?
